25 Songs of 2019 from LGBTQ Artists That You Need to Know
The Music That Moved and Grooved Us
It's hard to keep track of all the releases in a given year. Even those that are released to mainstream radio. So when you're tracking indie songs well, it can be easy to miss some of the gems that out there. However, when you hear something that you connect with, you don't easily forget it. And for those of us music lovers, we can't wait to share what we hear.
2019 had a significant number of releases that we enjoyed. So much so that we could really do a 10 part series. But instead we set ourselves a task and a limit to be able to bring you 25 songs released in 2019 that are both some of our favorites as well as made an impression or a different level. They moved us or got us moving, had us playing them on repeat or

MORGXN - A NEW WAY
Human loss is always a terrible experience and strain on the soul. But when it happens in connection with mental health it makes it that much more heartbreaking. And that is the basis of the song and video for Burry's 'For A Sad Soul'. Burry created a coping mechanism and way to express grief and loss but also a vehicle to honor the life of a friend lost to her. |

MYYLO & JORDY - TUCK YOUR HEAD UNDER THE COVERS
Ladies who love ladies, this one's for you. Romance and passion are all over the footage of this palpable piece of art pleasure. Katey Brooks has given us the heat normally associated with a heterosexual couple and done one better. This is a beautiful video and as Katey has said was "so much fun and exciting to make". |
|
SOAK - DEJA VU
One of her best songs to date amplified with a street level blurred video that inter-cut between Ria and Frank walking the bright lights of the street and a solitary child alone in a skate park. Visually the video flows in perfect tandem with the song and the typically warm nature of Ria Mae. |
|
TERRACOTTA MAFIA - JAMES DEAN
Orange is the color and Gregory Dillon is the obsession. This is the video to associate with Gregory Dillon. Fun, carefree...but also so very sweet in its nature and the romantic moments within the video. This is the video all us young gay boys wanted and needed when we were glued to our TV sets watching music videos. This is the normalized "crush" experience video that hits it square out of the park. |

TWIN XL - GOOD
How can you even categorize Dorian Electra other than next level. It's Dorian's world and we're just hoping for an invite. We could have put any Dorian video on this list and it wouldn't matter. They're all smashes. Dorian plays by Dorian's rules and we wouldn't have it any other way. And Flamboyant brings all that Dorian magic together to say to the rest of the world "catch up, or you're getting left behind". |

WILD BLACK - MOON STAR LOVER
EJ has taken a standard premise of a Hip Hop video, the house posse, some dancing, a little crew time and threw some glitter, pink fur and a whole lot of swag and attitude on it. It's the "I can play your game...but I'm turning it up to 20 and making it fabulous" approach that makes this video naturally fierce without overkill or trying too hard. EJ knows he has it in the pocket, he's just ringing the bell to let everyone else know. |

ZACH BENSON - EVERYTHING REMINDS ME OF YOU
Who doesn't like a feel good, walk about the hood kinda video. The infectiousness of the energy in this video is off the charts. Very Pharell meets Timberlake in Alberta but fun, fun, fun. Equal parts Hayden, music and visual magic. There's something happening in Calgary and its last name is McHugh! |
|
GREGORY DILLON - WHERE WE'RE GOING
So Peter Thomas is the boy that makes you sigh in daydreams. He's the crush we all have. The good crush. The one that makes you feel better about yourself even if you can never have him. Charasmatic, an incredible singer songwriter, with a vocal set we fall at...and then he makes a video and brings it all to the table with his closing magic...the eyes. In 3 frames of one of the most dreamy videos of the year, Peter Thomas has absolutely put us under a magic spell and we're unequivocally ok with that. |
