Evan's Explosion
Pronouns: (He/Him/His) Genre: Pop/EDM Country: US
About: At just eight years of age, Evan Safford knew that he was put on this earth to entertain. Before he was 18 years old, he was nominated for a New Mexico Music Award in 2008. Two years later, he was on his way to Hollywood to pursue his dreams. In 2016, Evan hit bottom in Hollywood and became homeless. At that point he returned to New Mexico to independently write, produce and film his six-episode, autobiographical web series, with the end product being “HELP!! Hollywood, I’m Trapped in New Mexico”, reliving the trauma of that time for his fans. Demonstrating this belief in the show, he campaigned for two Emmy Awards, using his performances at 2019 Pride Festivals in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Evan then began writing new music, with each release surpassing the previous ones popularity, which included “I Won’t Kill Me”, which spawned a “TikTok” challenge of the same name. At its peak, the challenge featured Jonathan Allen from America’s Got Talent. |
After a year of performing in Albuquerque’s music scene, including co-headlining Albuquerque’s Gay Pride Parade, the Madrid Gypsy Festival, and the annual Sweetheart Fashion Show, he began headlining shows, becoming an independent live act. When the COVID pandemic began hitting the United States in the early part of the year, Evan began a trend of online shows that would sweep the nation. These shows featured live performers from the local LGBTQ night club scene.
The “Safe Distance Virtual Variety Show” raised hundreds of dollars to help performers in quarantine. Evan used the platform to debut the controversial “Quarantined Blues”, a song written as a plea to New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Griffith, who was reported to be considering a ban on alcohol sales in the state. At its peak the show received praise from Sanjaya Malakar of American Idol fame.
In May, Evan was named Grand Marshall at the second annual “Lil’ Las Vegas Pride Parade”, as well as the host of an online after show for the parade. Then, tragedy struck as he was the victim of a hate crime near his home in Albuquerque, resulting in the loss of four front teeth. Still, he went forward with a FB Live Show while waiting for the police to file a report. Says Evan, “It’s a blessing it happened to me and not someone who wasn’t strong enough to handle it. And because I am strong enough, I will pursue justice.”
While he recovers his production company has announced the premiere of the Director’s Cut of his original mockumentary web series, “HELP!! Hollywood I’m Trapped in Hollywood, with the first episode shown on June 18. In July, the premiere of his reality show “Evan’s Explosion” documented his rise from an unknown musical artist from the hoods of Albuquerque to worldwide prominence.
