Brooklyn Doran Releases New Video in Honor of Friend
The Q Review is honored to be able to feature 'Tomorrow Never Comes', the new video for Toronto singer/songwriter Brooklyn Doran.
Written in honor of her friend Andrew Henderson, otherwise known as Glamdrew, and their final conversation before he passed away in 2016.
"I had a day off of tour, and went to visit him in his hometown of Clandeboye, ON in 2016. We smoked clove cigarettes on his grave, drove his truck to Gimli for lattes at Flatland, talked about everything and said goodbye," explains Doran. "Andrew lived and died fabulously. When he was diagnosed with terminal cancer he told me that once death was on the table, there was no point in being afraid of anything else. “Just live a fabulous life and drink champagne” he said. He tattooed the titanic onto his back. When he lost his hair, he covered himself in gold leaf. He drank champagne. He continued to make us laugh. We held three living funerals for him - the inaugural being “Glamdrew’s Glitter Fuckfest” held at The Monarch Tavern. The theme: glitter, gold, make people on the streetcar stare."
Andrew’s final act in this world was a performance art piece called “Take It to The Grave.” In this piece, people would whisper to Andrew their deepest darkest secrets to him, and he would have those secrets tattooed, a symbol he drew for each one, onto his skin. He passed away shortly after closing the show. You can learn more about Andrew's story HERE.
In the music video for "Tomorrow Never Comes," Doran pays tribute to the “Take it to the Grave” project in the final scenes. Close friend Ruby is being drawn on with these symbols as they sing the lyrics to the song. Andrew's close friends joined Brooklyn for the video shoot and wore clothing given to them by Andrew, anything from hats to sequins.
Because much of Andrew’s final year was supported by The 519’s Will Munro Fund, a charity that supports queer and trans people living with cancer, all proceeds from this song will be donated directly to The 519.
