by Q Review Staff
With a career spanning projects in film, musical tours and writing, Chris Jehnert now takes on one of his most exciting adventures - that of an original solo musician. With the upcoming release of his first original single 'Welcome to the Hollow' about to land on all platforms on April 11th and roles in multiple films coming out this year, Chris Jehnert's star is not just on the rise, it's shining bright.
We caught up with Chris to ask about what's been happening with him, his approach to music and get to know more about this entertainment maverick.
Where are you currently based?
I'm currently based in New York City, but I'm on tour so I pop up all over!
How long have you been making music?
I've essentially always been making music! From a young age I found music was the only way I really was able to express myself! I've always used it as an outlet, however this is my first original song to be fully produced and released!
What got you started in music?
When I was younger I always had a difficult time with expressing how I felt, I grew up with the mentality that you just had to kind of work through everything on your own to move forward in life. That was always tough for me, because I had a lot going on internally that I didn't understand how to express healthfully! As I got older I realized what a release music was, I found a way to healthfully express my emotion and found a way I could relate to other people. Music made me feel more connected to others and eased a burden I was carrying, and I have just never stopped using it as an outlet.
How would you describe your music?
I like to describe it as Haunted Pop. I like to write metaphorically literal, if that makes sense! I've kind of developed a pop sound that has influences of eeriness, rock, and electronic influence!
Who are your musical influences? Who are you inspired by? Which musical artists?
This one is always hard for me. My music taste is all over the place so I find my inspiration to emulate that. I don't have any specific artist that inspires anything specific, but all artists kind of inspire something in what I create.
What has been your most memorable gig?
I've gotten extremely lucky with my career with the fact that I have had a lot of memorable experiences! One of my favorite was getting to perform for the Best Buddies annual gala in 2018! I had arrived not knowing much about the event, and when I arrived the audience, the team, and all the other performers created such an incredible environment and an experience I will never forget! It's also been surreal meeting & performing alongside the names and voices I grew up listening to. I would listen to songs in my basement, pretending I was singing at a concert, and anything I experience getting to actually do that is memorable!

Who are you currently listening to? Who do you have on repeat?
Well literally today I've been listening to Bea Miller on repeat! Specifically the "Aurora" album! I've also been really into Aurora's "Animal" right now! But what I wanna listen to changes daily, so tomorrow I'm sure I'll have another album on repeat!
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Me, Myself, & I. If that works?
What’s next? What does the next 2 years look like?
Well I'm on tour with Larger Than Life: The Ultimate Boy Band tribute! That's mostly where my time goes! We have dates into 2020 already so touring with them is definitely something I'm continuing! I also am an actor, so I have 3 films coming out this year and I'm hopefully adding more to that soon! As for my music, after the release of "Welcome to the Hollow" I will continue to release covers and should have one or two more originals dropping this year! The goal is to drop a 6 song EP by the end of 2020, which would essentially be "The Hollow"!
What’s something on your music career “bucket” list?
At this point I feel like I'm checking off the things I thought were possible, and as I realize I shouldn't limit possibilities. I think a bucket list goal of mine as a performer is just perform my original in a full scale concert, full band, background dancers, the whole shebang!
Your upcoming single is 'Welcome to the Hollow'. It has a mystery and drama to it that sounds perfect for televison, shows like 'Riverdale' or 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'. What was the inspiration for that song?
Well thank you! First off, as an actor those are the type of shows I'd love to be a part of! As for the song, It's a mix of narcissism and loneliness! When I began the concept of The Hollow it stemmed from me introspectively looking at my past relationships and how they've effected me and those in them. Whether it be romantic, friendships, strangers. I kind of wrote about people being drawn to the image of what I "seem to be" based off my performing or media or initially meeting me, but then the realization of the reality of me as an actual person. The idea that someone is drawn to another person at first, then when you realize that they aren't what you expect, you think you can transform them into the person you expected them to be somehow, and being trapped in that limbo of wanting to be with someone who doesn't quite exist, and in the case of this song, I am the person that doesn't quite exist.
Getting your music in a movie or on a TV show that's popular can be huge for an artist. Have you ever pitched your music to any studios?
In all honesty, I am so ignorant to that side of the industry! It's something I'd love to do, but at this moment don't even know how to begin doing that!

In all honesty, I am so ignorant to that side of the industry! It's something I'd love to do, but at this moment don't even know how to begin doing that!
If you were going to collaborate with another artist, who is on your dream list?
Oh wow, That also changes daily! Halsey is someone I'd love to work with, Bea Miller is currently in my head so her haha! I honestly would love to collaborate with anyone. Something about bringing two minds and different styles together always creates something unique! So, I have some dream artists based off of their music that I love, but I'd love to work with most artists really!
How do you think LGBTQ artists are viewed in the music industry? Do you think it's harder for LGBTQ artists to break into mainstream?
I definitely think as the public's minds open, it becomes easier to be a part of the mainstream world and to be viewed as an artist! I think that it's important to realize that every human is a human, so when I write about love, hate, anger, pain, or any emotion, its something everyone can relate too. When I hear a song, I hear what one person is singing about, and the emotion they convey, whether they identify with any sexuality, you can still connect to the feelings of a song. So I do think it's still harder to break into the mainstream because I think LGBTQ artists are viewed as a niche, but as minds open in the public, I think it becomes easier to be in the mainstream as an artist.
As an LGBTQ artist what do you find challenging with your music?
I think because I'm new to my solo music in the scene, I haven't experienced too many challenges in regards to sexuality. I think my biggest challenge has been internal. The way my mind works, I feel concern of like, if I showcase an LGBTQ relationship in a video, will this deter fans from liking it... and as someone who just lives openly and honestly, It annoys me that I even think about it haha, so I guess fighting my own thoughts has been the biggest challenge.
What do you get up to when you're not making music?
Oh, I'm a workaholic. So when I'm not making music, I'm touring, filming, or writing. In my free time I guess I see movies, concerts, and play video games. Or I just chill and watch a lot of TV. But mostly in my down time, I find ways to work more.
What's the best way for fans to connect with you? Are you on social media? What platforms?
Instagram is my favorite! My handle on everything is @ChrisJehnert
But I have facebook, twitter, instagram, and all that jazz! My youtube is ChrisJehnertMusic where you can find my videos
If you could go anywhere in the world right now where would you go and why?
I'd love to visit Sicily, Italy! I have family there and have never been!
What’s one last thing you want listeners to know?
I just want them to know how grateful I am that they're checking this out and how much I appreciate you listening!
Chris Jehnert's upcoming single 'Welcome to the Hollow' lands on April 11th, 2019. Be sure to check out some very rad Haunted Pop!
