Do You One Better.
SINGLE/VIDEO RELEASE: Davy Boi Releases Live Acoustic Version of 'Do Myself Better'
Alternative R&B artist Davy Boi has dropped a new version of his latest single, “Do Myself Better”. The Live from Somebody's Backyard in Pasadena take finds Davy joined by guitarist Larry Carrol (Hayley Kiyoko) on a breezy, sunny summer day.
Davy says,
“I wrote my first song ever for a backyard Halloween show at my great grandmother’s in Louisiana when I was 7 years old. This ‘Do Myself Better’ performance gave me a chance to get out of the house and go back to where it all started. Although a long way from the suburbs of Baton Rouge - ‘Live from Somebody’s Backyard in Pasadena’ does the trick for my current ‘LA boi’ status.”
The studio version, produced by MKBLV & Shiftee, was the first track in over a year from Davy and has garnered over 220,000 plays online. With the current pandemic, the time to share his experience navigating anxiety and depression was something people could relate to. UPROXX calls it “a self-love anthem to a happy beat that perhaps everyone could use right now,” and his guest editorial for DJBooth describes what it is like dealing with these issues as an artist.

The single is accompanied by Davy Boi’s new podcast series of the same name - Do Myself Better. On it, he sits down with predominately Queer talents to discuss self-care particularly during the global pandemic. Featured guests thus far include a diverse array of singer/songwriters with Carlos Vara, Michael Medrano, Elliot Jones, and Vardaan Arora; and non-binary Actor/Writer/Filmmaker from Hulu’s Love, Victor & creator of Tribeca short film selection Ponyboi, River Gallo.
Raised in Louisiana and based in Los Angeles, Davy Boi is known not only for his smooth vocals and tailored pop top-lines but also for openly exploring his life and sexual identity as an out & albino Black man. His previous songs are compiled onto the 2019 EP errything so far… which has generated over 1.75 million streams. It includes the debut single “Dirty Mind” featuring Queens rapper Dai Burger which hit like a party pill of an intro to the voice memo diaries of Davy Boi. He followed up with “what u like,” a sexually charged track of late-night longing set to a club beat that evokes a disco era Bay Area venue, and “Foundation,” a personal song on growth & self-confidence.
