Digging In With GraveyardGuy.
by Q Review Staff
Don't read this review if you find yourself running through the woods wearing heels...while that type of scene might be a staple in most horror films, listening to the songs put out by Graveyardguy is just as evocative. This horror-pop trailblazer has been recording now for almost five years and shares with us his process, his musical inspiration and why we should all just "Go to Hell."
Where did the name Graveyardguy come from?
It was my Instagram name for the longest time. When people around town started to know me as that, it kinda just stuck.
For those not familiar with you, describe yourself in 3 words.
Grave. Yard. Guy.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been writing songs since I was a kid. I recorded my first demo around 2014.
How did you get started in music?
I had always wanted to make music so one day I said fuck it and booked myself some studio time. I’ve learned now that it’s way too expensive to use a studio if you are just starting out, so now I just record at home. That’s the way to go.
Your songs are very related to the gothic genre, but how would you describe your music?
‘Horror-pop’ is the term that has been thrown around to describe my music lately. It fits because my songs are almost like these little horror movies in song form.
Listeners beware, you're in for a scare... is your tagline. Have you always been into the horror genre and dark pop/electro music?
If you grew up on ‘Goosebumps’, you know! But yes, that was always the type of sound I gravitated towards - and I still do. There’s just something about it.
What is your process for writing? Do you often have a theme or story in mind or does the melody and music come first?
I always come up with the concept first. Then the rest follows- although, I usually know how I want it to sound from the start.
Some might compare your work with that of Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson. Do you draw any inspiration from them to develop your own music?
Of course! They are the kings of all things spooky. But I pull inspiration more from horror films or just the horror genre in general. It’s still such a compliment for me to get compared to artists like them.

Your song 'Final Girl' features Slayyyter. How did that collaboration come about?
I met Slayyyter online last summer and we were both in similar spots with our music. We weren’t all that popular yet and had only a few tracks out. She introduced me to the producer, Ayesha Erotica, and soon after, we began working on ‘Final Girl’. I asked Slayyyter if she would be on it and the rest is history. We really hit the nail on the head in making a slasher anthem!
Who else would you like to get in the studio with?
Oh god. That would be such a long list. For now, I’m more just focused on collaborating with the friends I’ve made in music recently.
You recently released your single 'Go to Hell' which is so memorable. Where did the concept for that song come from?
It was inspired by my first trip to LA. It was a wild, eye-opening experience and I learned so much from it. Not everything is what it seems, ya know. I’d still love to relocate there someday, though.
Have you gotten the opportunity to play live much? If so what has been your most memorable gig?
I’ve performed at a few local gigs. Which are always fun. I love to perform. It makes it all worth it. I think my most memorial gig would be one I did at Field of Screams, which is actually America’s #1 haunted attraction. It was very suiting for me.
Who are you curently listening to? Who do you have on repeat?
My friends have been dropping the sickest shit lately. I definitely recommend artists like Slayyyter, That Kid, Boy Sim, Jake Germain and so many others! They are really bringing the DIY pop scene to the next level.
What’s next? What do you have coming up?
Hopefully, a full length Graveyardguy project. Maybe with some music videos and live shows. I’m just winging it!
What’s something on your music career “bucket” list?
To have my music in a horror movie would be insane. Something is already in the works, but I can’t say too much yet.
Who's GraveyardGuy when he's not making music?
I live in a small town in PA so there isn’t really that much to do. I’m sort of a shut-in. I like to take photos and make music. Sometimes I go to the local gay club just to request me and my friends’ music.
If you could go anywhere in the world right now where would you go and why?
LA, for sure. There’s just so many opportunities for artists like myself. If I move there, I’ll be unstoppable. Just wait.
What’s one last thing you want listeners to know about you?
I may look scary but I’m pretty nice!
