Oh my oh my oh my. I have only recently discovered the wildly talented Hollie Col and already I am devouring everything she has available. This Australian singer/songwriter is a powerhouse ballad writer.
I’m beside myself with her latest single ‘Please Don’t Love Someone’. It’s touching and heartbreaking and wonderful and will bring you to tears. Col’s gentle handling of heartbreak is palpable. This is writing from the depths of maturity and yet so absolutely genuinely fresh. The song is grounded in indie folk foundations but Col’s youth and vibrance elevates that folk sensibility to a new and different space. This is a finely crafted experience.
And alongside the writing comes the vocal fragility in delivering note perfect emotion. The tone and vulnerability in her voice is almost outshined by her presence on film. She wrote the song and directed the video showing full well the undeniable storytelling ability She is capable of. I could gush for days on end about an artist of this caliber but suffice it to say, in Hollie Col we have found an immense and gifted talent.
