When I listen to a new song for the first time I like to do it undisturbed and preferably somewhere alone so I can let the full affect hit me without restraint. My favorite place is in my car. It's my musical church in a sense. I put on a song, hit the highway and see what happens. Sometimes it's a tap along. Othertimes it's a sing along. Sometimes it's a full on seat dance party...I won't lie, it can get wild. And then there are times when what I'm listening to renders me speechless and I can feel the emotion bubble up inside me. And then my toes curl. That's when I know, that for me, what I'm listening to is powerful. The toes curl and I hold my breath. And that's exactly what I got from the moment I started listening to 'Jacob From the Bible' the new song from Jake Wesley Rogers. I've been listening to this track contiuously since I was fortunate enough to receive it in advance. Full disclosure, if you write an emotionally personal song and start it off singing to your mother, I'm in. You have me. 'Jacob From the Bible' opens with a brief haunting and melancholic music intro before Rogers delivers the first line "Mama I'm sorry it took me years, to say I'm sorry to see your tears". The full opening is a very personal and beautiful verse of apology, understanding and absolution delivered in 3 lines. It's directly followed by an explosive orchestral chorus that cements the intimate confessional tone of the song. A tone that is more than illustrated at the top of the second verse with the lyric "My first lover, shared my name". In one moment Jake Wesley Rogers stands revealed to all, accepting and unafraid of his truth. That's an incredibly moving moment for an artist to put out to the world. In the case of 'Jacob From the Bible' it delivers Rogers back into music as an artist reborn, now free from constraints of the past with a newly developed self acceptance and an evolved self awareness. 'Jacob From the Bible' is a true statement piece and an impressive performance song. It's the type of arrangement that showcases the level of talent Jake Wesley Rogers holds in his hands as a writer and in his vocals as a performer. It draws you in and grasps you with an almost gospel allure. It exposes us to both his strenth and vulnerability as an artist and as a person and you can envision it as a fully realized production on the stage of any grand awards show. It's captivating, honest and revealing with everything you would want in a first class recording. 'Jacob From the Bible' will be released on all platforms on Friday, Feb. 22 Pre-save 'Jacob From the Bible' Here Learn more about Jake Wesley Rogers at jakewesleyrogers.com
