Australia's Just Shy Roars on New Release 'Lionese'
Just Shy’s new release ‘Lionise’ will make your heart ache and your hips swing - probably in that order.
Having accumulated 70,000+ streams of his previous releases, Just Shy (AKA John Rowley) has won praise from the likes of Pilerats, Purple Sneakers, EQ Music, JOY 94.9, The Record Doctor, Project U and auspOp.
‘Lionise’ is the first in a suite of electrifying new songs to be released by the independent Sydney-raised, Melbourne-based artist Just Shy in 2020.
Hard-hitting and contemporary, ‘Lionise’ begins as a tender remembrance of a departed lover, expressed through yearning guitar chords and longing vocals. Before long, it explodes with a slick, forlorn guitar motif and booming bass that commands the body to move.

Just Shy wrote the song in the aftermath of a short, intense romance. He says the track explores “our tendency to idealise people once they’ve faded from our lives.”
“‘Lionise’ is all about that internal struggle to reconcile someone’s flaws and imperfections with what they meant to you romantically,” he explains. “When you only have your memories of a person to rely on, their best and worst qualities can be warped to extremes.”
Just Shy’s music is entirely self-written; ‘Lionise’ was produced in collaboration with Sydney up-and-comer Dion Shaw and mixed by Melbourne outfit Vintage Physics.
‘Lionise’ is set for released on Tuesday February 25. Stay tuned for more releases throughout 2020.
