LELAND STEPS OUT OF THE MIDDLE TO LEAD THE PACK
Leland, the man behind many of your favourite songs (Daya’s “Hide Away,” and Charli XCX & Troye Sivan’s collaboration “1999”), has stepped out from behind-the-scenes to release his own single, “Middle of a Heartbreak.” The song is a relatable piece of pop perfection that perfectly sums up ‘heartbreak’ in the most ear candy song I’ve ever heard.
The song has a bubblegum pop feel that reminds me of circa 2012 pop music of the likes of Katy Perry and Carly Rae Jepsen. The music video is a pink explosion that features an enthusiastic Leland dancing and singing extravagantly. The video’s pink aesthetic and Leland’s behaviour in the video makes you forget how somber the lyrics are to the upbeat song.
It’s rare when someone can dance like Leland does after a heartbreak, but maybe this is the new way to get over a heartbreak. Dance party!
