Mikhail's Song
Bombay Artist Mikhail Cazi Releases Debut Single 'Helena's Song'
Bombay-based singer, instrumentalist and producer Mikhail Cazi's no newcomer to music. He's been singing for most of his life and has been playing the guitar and piano since he was 10. He's still experimenting with his musical style - while he started off writing pop/rock - Mikhail found himself more recently influenced by electronic, neo-soul and indie/rock music from the likes of FKJ, Tash Sultana and Tame Impala.
As a gay man, Mikhail's music frequently explores queer themes like self-expression, freedom and (as in his first single Helena's Song) the idea of the 'chosen family'. He also writes about science, traveling, his experiences and one very interesting National Geographic video about an tribe in Africa.
"I feel that as a member of the queer community who is safe enough to be out, it's kind of my responsibility to talk about LGBT topics via my music. These are themes that many shy away from, and are viewed in quite a negative light especially in modern Indian pop culture and music. I'd love to be the person who inspires someone to be themselves.”

Helena's Song
Recorded, arranged, mixed and produced by Mikhail himself, Helena's Song was actually written back in 2017 just before his first gig. While in the future he's aiming to create an electronic/indie sound, his first single isn't really so. Probably because it's musically influenced by what he grew up listening and singing to - powerhouse vocalists of the 2000s.
Helena's Song is that quintessential pop/rock song, and is inspired by the TV series 'Orphan Black'. Unsure of what to write about for his first song, Mikhail considered writing about a muse, and the show's slightly unhinged but lovable character Helena felt perfect. But it's more than just about her. It's about the people for whom family isn't blood. The people who had had to find a family that would accept them. It's about the queer community and their "chosen families". When we had to find our sestras, and stick with them like a pack of wolves.
All proceeds from the song will go to relief funds for COVID-19 and queer and trans relief funds.
