MUSIC VIDEO

Music Videos of 2019

PART 3
JESS LaCOY - ONE SHOT IN
Longing to have someones attention when they are playing stealth has never looked so colorful and dreamy. Jess LaCoy dropped us a real crowd pleaser with One Shot In. Visually arresting and filled with romantic tension and flair. If you were only to make one video ever and this was it, you'd have to be ecstatic. Compellingly intoxicating.
QUISOL - BLUE CURAÇAO
Not to be confused with the liqueur, Blue Curaçao by Quisol is a completely other delight. Quisol fuses his Filipino and Puerto Rican heritage with Island style electronic music to create something otherworldly seductive. Released to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia. Blue Curaçao  is a dizzyingly beautiful location shoot fantasy. You won't be able to look away.
KIMMIE DEVEREUX - NORMAL
First love doesn't always last, but the butterflies of experiencing it never really fade. But when you're told your feelings aren't normal, internal conflict can cause you to retreat in fear and shame. Kimmie Devereux lands the storyline with the sweetest of genuine delivery. Kimmie Devereux has had a fantastic year but Normal is the beginning of a future star exploding.
OPENSIDE - KISS ME
We're HUGE fans of Openside around here. And if you want to know why, watch the video and their fans will tell you as they unite youth from all walks of life through their music and messages of acceptance.
MATHEW V - CATCHING FEELINGS
Boy astronaut lands on planet and meets boy alien. They're very different but it doesn't matter because Love Is Love! Shot in a very dream/space like quality, the colorful hues amplify the alieness of it all and turns it into a gorgeous spectacle of other-world excitement.
VINCINT - PLEASE DON'T FALL IN LOVE
Vincint doesn't need a video. He has that voice. But if he is gloing to make a video, I'm so glad someone put the full focal on him and his passion because this song is a Vincint masterclass and needed the exact visual treatment it received. All Vincint, highlighted and in full force.
GREYSON CHANCE - BOOTS
Oh little chickadee how you've grown. There's a new Sheriff in town, and his name is Greyson Chance. Greyson Chance was the boy from Ellen. Greyson Chance is no longer that boy. And he'll be damned to be told who he should be and what will make him successful. Case in point, a knock down fist fight between Greyson the artist and a young male model representing what Hollywood thinks he should be. The winner? Greyson Chance's authentic self. How d'ya like them apples punk?
ANDREA DI GIOVANNI - BANG
Don't f*** with cats? No, don't f*** with Andrea Di Giovanni. Always outspoken, fearless, convicted in the belief of justice and a real performer, they know exactly who they are. They've heard it all and they put all the ugly on display in news print that they roll around on the floor with. Only to get up and dance all that ugly right off of them. Camp, cheek and clever. Andrea Di Giovanni is the firecracker in the Bang of 2019.
PRIMME - BOYS
In a world of toxic masculinity, Primme has used music video to display many kinds of boys. And they are all beautiful, all have value and are all worthy of love. This is the real world of men. And it is a world of many sizes, shades and expressions.
MATTHEW JAMES - RIGHT NOW
Trigger Warning. Matthew James has set himself a task, to end LGBTQ+ suicide. And Right Now is just the start. The images can be jarring and unsettling. But that's the because the statistics are. They're unconscionable. Matthew James knows this and although one voice, he's using what he can to make that voice louder in the hopes we'll all get loud with him. Let's get loud.
DAISIA IMAN - BAD FOR YOU
Toxic relationships are not a heterosexual issue. They're a human issue. And sometimes the love that's extreme isn't always enough. Daisia Iman has given us a slice of reality we don't always see in a queer music video. Real life living. It can be hard, and messy, and not make sense. And sometimes even when we don't want it to be, we can be bad for each other.
BOY UNTITLED - SKIN
Towards a bold new world we go. One that is considerate towards beauty and culture and self. Inner energy is released on film in the Skin music video that melds emotion and grace and color and life and dance and landscape together to create a sensory overload that is one of the most beautifully shot music videos of the year.
RUBEN - SO HIGH
The weight of what we carry and the ways we are shackled and held down are dissolved when love makes us weightless. That's the statement in Ruben's So High. Simple in nature, but dramatic in symbolism. The visual of being wrapped in chains only to float freely away is something we all want to relate to. To find that other half that lifts us up.
ROOKES - LIMINAL
Uniting a cast of completely LGBTQ community members and hitting the dance floor, Rookes landed in 2019 with a strong point of view and looking to make a mark. Success achieved. Liminal is a display of that community aspect of queer that is synonymous with having a place where you never have to question if you belong. It is instinctive and feels like home.
CROOKED GHOST - BLACK RAINBOW
The song deals with mental illness and suicide. The video interweaves the concepts of understanding our relationship between the head and heart, the physical and spiritual, and the inner monologue and cry for help. The result is a piece of work the alt rockers can stand proud of. Complex but completely human.
KIM PETRAS - ICY
I mean, how can we not include the lady who has put out more material in one year than most do over the course of 5. And all of it excellent. Yes, Kim Petras and Icy are a must include due to the stunning images alone. But also as the visual representation of how much she has grown and matured as an artist in such a short period of time. Icy though the song may be, she's just getting warmed up.
