MUSIC VIDEO

Music Videos of 2019
46 of the Best Music Videos from LGBTQ Artists You Need to See

Music Video was once the absolute necessity to an artist's release. Often times the video would precede the single release. But time and technology have changed the structure of music releases and now artists find themselves in a position where it is far more challenging than it already was to tackle the process of video creation.

Over the course of 2019 we've watched many videos. And we've seen that artists are proving that when possible to create and release music video's, substance outweighs style. After re-watching hours of music video we put together a selection of 46 from this year we believe demand your attention. These artists have crafted videos that we feel have a story, present a position, engage us, move the dial forward. raise the bar or in some instances simply dazzle us. Most artists are working with little to no budget. But some who do have dollars to use, have used them well.

Of the literal thousands of music videos out there, we had to choose a manageable number. And while we think we've chosen a fantastic group of some of the best, we understand that some of YOUR favorites may not be on our list. But we hope you'll find some new diamonds you'll fall in love with from those we've chosen. So without further ado, and in no particular order, we present to you, the Q Review Best of LGBTQ Music Videos of 2019.

BURRY - FOR A SAD SOUL
Human loss is always a terrible experience and strain on the soul. But when it happens in connection with mental health it makes it that much more heartbreaking. And that is the basis of the song and video for Burry's 'For A Sad Soul'. Burry created a coping mechanism and way to express grief and loss but also a vehicle to honor the life of a friend lost to her.
KATEY BROOKS - ALL OF ME
Ladies who love ladies, this one's for you. Romance and passion are all over the footage of this palpable piece of art pleasure. Katey Brooks has given us the heat normally associated with a heterosexual couple and done one better. This is a beautiful video and as Katey has said was "so much fun and exciting to make".
MUNA - NUMBER ONE FAN
MUNA have taken the concept of emulation by fans to a fun and new level in this concept video finding the fan dressing, expressing and living like the band members.
DAVY BOI - DIRTY MIND
Davy Boi brings it all down to the ground level of fun, frolic and summer time lovin' in a video that shows the artists playful and flirtatious side. Davy makes like a 'lil devil and we're  all about it.
RIA MAE ft. FRANK KADILLAC - HOLD ME
One of her best songs to date amplified with a street level blurred video that inter-cut between Ria and Frank walking the bright lights of the street and a solitary child alone in a skate park. Visually the video flows in perfect tandem with the song and the typically warm nature of Ria Mae.
GREGORY DILLON - WHERE WE'RE GOING
Orange is the color and Gregory Dillon is the obsession. This is the video to associate with Gregory Dillon. Fun, carefree...but also so very sweet in its nature and the romantic moments within the video. This is the video all us young gay boys wanted and needed when we were glued to our TV sets watching music videos. This is the normalized "crush" experience video that hits it square out of the park.
DORIAN ELECTRA - FLAMBOYANT
How can you even categorize Dorian Electra other than next level. It's Dorian's world and we're just hoping for an invite. We could have put any Dorian video on this list and it wouldn't matter. They're all smashes. Dorian plays by Dorian's rules and we wouldn't have it any other way. And Flamboyant brings all that Dorian magic together to say to the rest of the world "catch up, or you're getting left behind".
EJ - WHY U MAD
EJ has taken a standard premise of a Hip Hop video, the house posse, some dancing, a little crew time and threw some glitter, pink fur and a whole lot of swag and attitude on it. It's the "I can play your game...but I'm turning it up to 20 and making it fabulous" approach that makes this video naturally fierce without overkill or trying too hard. EJ knows he has it in the pocket, he's just ringing the bell to let everyone else know.
HAYDEN McHUGH - SMILE
Who doesn't like a feel good, walk about the hood kinda video. The infectiousness of the energy in this video is off the charts. Very Pharell meets Timberlake in Alberta but fun, fun, fun. Equal parts Hayden, music and visual magic. There's something happening in Calgary and its last name is McHugh!
PETER THOMAS - WATCHING TV WITH THE SOUND OFF
So Peter Thomas is the boy that makes you sigh in daydreams. He's the crush we all have. The good crush. The one that makes you feel better about yourself even if you can never have him. Charasmatic, an incredible singer songwriter, with a vocal set we fall at...and then he makes a video and brings it all to the table with his closing magic...the eyes. In 3 frames of one of the most dreamy videos of the year, Peter Thomas has absolutely put us under a magic spell and we're unequivocally ok with that.
SHEA DIAMOND - DON'T SHOOT
If you tried to think of what videos would be on this list and didn't include Don't Shoot, you haven't been paying attention. Shea Diamond continues to use sound and visuals to educate us on societal practice, history and issues. With power house vocals and a presence that says "I am here", Shea Diamond is quickly becoming the Beyonce for a new generation. That may sound like a bold statement, but take a step back and read the room Shea is standing in and you'll know you're in class, church and home all at the same time. Shea Diamond's the real deal, full stop.
CUB SPORT - PARTY PILL
This is a visual love letter to true love. Husbands Tim and Sam of the band are the show piece of one of their best and most popular songs. The video is an absolute beautiful and intimate portrait of the marriage equality both fought for in Australia and Party Pill should be mandated to be the wedding song of gay weddings for years to come.
T. THOMASON - BIRDSONG
As a musician and as a human, T. has gone through a number of evolution's to arrive at the artist he is today. And the video for Birdsong is a visual release as T. shed's another layer of himself to re-emerge at his next level of artistry and strides forward even more confidant, more resilient, shining brighter and hotter than before and ready to embrace the next adventure.
WILD BLACK - MOON STAR LOVER
Welcome to Queer adult summer camp. The water's beautiful but you don't got to get in. We can all camp out together on the dock and be one with nature. This song is our everything! And this video makes you need to be there in that vibe, soaking that sun and living that summer camp life forever.
ISKWE - LITTLE STAR
This may be the video of the year. It should be. Iskwe has taken a stop motion animation style approach with the video for song Little Star to bring attention to the repeated neglect of violence towards indigenous youth who's live have been lost. The video is layered with symbolism and a city covered in new clippings detailing the various cases of violence and crime. Unsettling though it may be for some, Iskwe is an artist who takes up that feeling and is turning it into action. If you watch only one video on this list, this should be the one.
