PRIMME Gets Real with Queer Pop Confessional 'Sadboi'
Indie Queer pop artist PRIMME has released his newest single “Sadboi” on Friday. The song is inspired by his own history of depression, but given the events of 2020, “Sadboi” encapsulates the emotions that many of us have been feeling - loneliness, sadness, anxiety and frustration.
“Growing up, I thought that people would only like me if I was happy, even if I had to fake it. By internalizing all the emotions I wanted to avoid feeling, I experienced crippling anxiety and deep bouts of depression that would manifest in me sobbing to my mom at night. I hope that this song will help normalize feeling sadness without letting it define us, and reassure people struggling with their mental health that it does get better"

Sonically, “Sadboi” springs from the moody sounds of Troye Sivan, Lauv, and Chelsea Cutler, fusing atmospheric elements with distorted vocals and
in-your-face percussion. Lyrically, PRIMME takes a simpler, more conversational approach in describing covering up his sadness with a façade of happiness.
“Sadboi” is co-written by PRIMME and Owen Danoff of NBC’s The Voice, marking their second partnership following their recent collaboration on PRIMME’s song “Brooklyn.” Producer Scott Giffin (AKA Relatable) helped PRIMME package his frustration and feelings into song. The single’s artwork by Arturo Magallanes shows an ice cream cone - a symbol of childhood - overturned and melting, depicting the harsh reality of growing up.
PRIMME, who creates music in his bedroom recording studio, has been featured in Spotify’s official Scorpio playlist, Bsides & Badlands, The Lowdown, The QReview, and Talk About Pop Music. PRIMME has been named one of Instinct Magazine’s “Five to Follow,” and is working on his upcoming EP, set to be released in Spring 2021.
As the country locks down again and seasonal affective disorder sets in for many, “Sadboi” provides the much-needed opportunity to lean in to our feelings, and maybe dance a little too.

PRIMME (pronounced “Prime”) is a New York City-based pop recording artist, producer, and performer. Growing up in the 90s, PRIMME has been inspired by a narrative songwriting style that he infuses with elements of EDM and R&B as he creates his own flavor of dancefloor-thumping pop. What makes any PRIMME song a signature is the shimmer on the surface with the production and the bubbling ethos underneath it because of the autobiographical songwriting.
A staple at LGBTQ+ summer Pride festivals in the Northeast and beyond, PRIMME brings his vibrant musical theatre background to his live shows as he contextualizes his anthemic singles that span an array of themes, from activism and acceptance (#inmyPRIMME, Give Me Life) to love and loss (Adore, Brooklyn). PRIMME’s list of musical inspirations are as varied as his own discography. His songcraft channels the poetic relatability of Lauv, over production that grooves with the electronic flair of Justin Timberlake, sprinkled with hints of Troye Sivan. Then with a fleet of backup dancers, his fiery and energetic live performances bring the adrenaline and exuberance of Madonna.
Whether crooning through your favorite streaming service or grooving live on stage, PRIMME has carved out his own piece of the pop landscape with undeniable earworms and shimmeringly synchronized live sets… And his own PRIMME is only just beginning.
