Single Premiere: Shawn Richard Brings His Love of Songwriting to Life in New Single “I Don't Wanna Go There”
Qreview is very excited to introduce new audiences to rising East Coast Canadian Country music Shawn Richard. Canada's east has long been the birthing ground of some of music's best and brightest stars and Shawn is quickly moving to become a member of that club. Following the release of his smash debut single 'All My Tomorrow's' and the follow up 'Right Side of Wrong', Shawn now sets himself ready to take on 2021 by ending 2020 with the release of the brilliant 'I Don't Wanna Go There', a song that glows through reflection on past relationships and dealing with the struggles and weight of depression.
“I wrote this song a number of years ago and it has taken on a couple of different meanings, and has served a couple different purposes. It’s about hardships in a relationship and trying so hard to see the good in a situation but not knowing if that’s enough. It’s also helped me through depression as it expresses how I feel about the world during those times. The lyrics ‘I don’t wanna say I’m sorry, say I love you, I just wanna be quiet’ and ‘I don’t wanna go there, I don’t wanna make you cry’ are both very deep feelings I’ve had when battling depression.”
'I Don't Wanna Go There' may be created in Country music roots, Shawn has crafted the song with strong crossover appeal. His Nashville sound still carries his east coast soul and the evidence is easily heard throughout the single. Earnest and honest in tone, Shawn also speaks to a topic many artists and audience can relate to. And he does it all while lifting spirits through lyrics and melody that should land his names on the lips of the global Country music community. And as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Shawn is another addition to the ranks of artists that are making queer Country some of the most exciting music being made today.

It’s been an interesting year for the music industry, and it’s been no exception for Shawn. With his live shows all cancelled and Atlantic Canada forming a bubble to help combat the global pandemic, it’s been challenging to record new music and to get in front of fans. But that hasn’t stopped Shawn from creating new music. “This year has had its downfalls, but it also gave me a chance to sit back and realize how much we actually take for granted,” he explains. “I realized more than ever that music is my passion and I want to run with it.”
So that’s what he’s been doing … running with it and chasing his dreams.
“I Don’t Wanna Go There” is the third single that Shawn Richard has released. Since his debut release “All My Tomorrow’s” in 2019, Shawn has been working hard to make a name for himself within the Atlantic provinces. Recorded in Nashville, “All My Tomorrow’s” landed in the top of the iTunes charts and made him one to watch. His sophomore single “Right Side Of Wrong” was one of the most downloaded songs at Canadian country radio. Now, with “I Don’t Wanna Go There,” Shawn is looking to extend his reach across the country.
