Isle of Wight ‘New Blood’ competition winners and alternative-pop band, STITCH, have announced the release of their new single ‘Haunted’, with the message of feeling exhausted by having to fight social conventions whilst struggling with depression.
The alternative-pop track, written by lead singer Nikita, combines a strong alto London-Grammar-like voice with floating strings, clashing percussions and built up melody to really highlight the powerful message of the track. With crisp production and echoing reverb, the track was written in the midst of a relapse into depression. Singer Nikita vocalises “in the wake of these difficult times struggling with depression, and as a very close band, we have come to realise the sheer importance of openness, communication and sharing our vulnerabilities.''.
“I went through a messy break-up and spent a lot of time feeling sad, then I suddenly thought – you’re in control of your emotions and you deserve to feel better about yourself. I ended up writing this super sassy chorus and the rest of the song developed around it. Then after I finished writing it I felt great, I felt confident, and I felt like me again.”
The band continues “it is a song about your dreams and ambitions getting the better of you and feeling exhausted by having to fight social conventions of what your job or dreams should be”.

The track follows the launch of their debut 2018 EP Welcome To The Dream, the successful release of their single ‘Champagne’ which premiered on music magazine CLASH, and performances at well-known festivals such as the Isle of Wight festival, L Fest, Camp Bestival, London Pride and more. To celebrate the success of their single, they performed a sold-out headline show at the Hoxton Underbelly, before headlining another sold-out show at Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen in Oct 2018.
The new single combines a melodic piano, dark bass beats and soft floating vocals with a choir-like backing vocal. The raw track explores the relatable topic of how mental health can affect your dreams, as the lyrics “so when am I gonna fly high?” is repeated with powerful solo violin accompaniment.
The track will be performed at STITCH’s 2019 filmed show ‘We’ll Be Needing Medicine’ on the 13th November at Oslo in Hackney. Tickets are on sale via TicketWeb.
Haunted is available to stream on all music platforms.
